The City of Mankato has issued a boil water advisory for an area along the Highway 169 corridor, from Pauley Way and Butterworth Street north to the Kiwanis Recreation Area.
Officials say a water main break this morning caused a loss of pressure, increasing the risk that the water could contain bacteria that may cause illness.
The city has switched the affected area to North Mankato’s water supply and is flushing the system. The advisory will remain in effect until testing confirms the water is safe.
Residents should bring water to a rolling boil for at least one minute and let it cool before use. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth and preparing food.
The city expects the issue to be resolved within the next 30 hours. Once the advisory is lifted, residents should flush their plumbing systems.
